Who Can Vote in Minnesota?
To vote in Minnesota, you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be at least 18 years old on Election Day (16- and 17-year-olds can preregister)
- Have lived in Minnesota for at least 20 days
- Not be in jail for a felony conviction
- Not be under a court order that removes your right to vote
Ways to Register to Vote
1. Online
You’ll need:
- Your Minnesota driver’s license, state ID number, or the last 4 digits of your Social Security number
- An email address
- To be eligible to vote in MN (see requirements above)
- To re-register if your name or address changes
2. Onsite (Election Day)
- You can register at your polling place on Election Day by filling out a registration form
- Bring ID and proof of residence
3. Automatic Registration
- If you’re eligible to vote, you’ll be automatically registered when you apply for or renew a Minnesota state ID or driver’s license
