The Republican Party in Redwood County starts its work with meetings called caucuses. These are super important because they’re the very first step in how the Republican Party decides who they’ll support for different political jobs.
When and Where?
The local Republican group in Redwood County, called the BPOU (or Basic Political Organizing Unit), holds these caucuses every two years, in years when we have General Elections. These meetings happen at different places around Redwood County. The date is decided by Minnesota’s two main political parties by March 1st of the year before. For example, the next big caucuses are planned for Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.
You can find out exactly where your caucus will be by using the “Caucus Finder” tool on the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website (https://caucusfinder.sos.mn.gov/).
Why Should YOU Go?
Attending a Republican caucus in Redwood County is a great way to:
- Show support for a Republican candidate who aligns with your values or who will get the job done.
- Bring up an issue that’s important to you.
- Help decide who the Republican Party will support for many various government roles.
- Meet other people in your community who share your conservative values.
It’s one of the most basic ways you can use your rights and responsibilities as a citizen.
You can find the Minnesota Republican Party Platform on the MN GOP website (https://mngop.com/party-resources/).
What Happens at a Caucus?
At these meetings, you’ll be doing a few key things:
- Choose Delegates: You’ll help pick people called delegates and alternates. These are volunteers who will represent your local area (your “precinct”) at the bigger Redwood County Republican Convention. They’re chosen for a two-year period.
- Discuss Ideas (Resolutions): You can also talk about issues and ideas that are important to you. These ideas are called resolutions. If you can convince others at the caucus to agree with your resolution, it will be sent to the Redwood County Convention. If it keeps getting supported, your idea could eventually become a part of the official Republican Party’s platform – basically, their main list of beliefs and goals!
Who Can Attend?
Anyone who can vote, lives in that specific local area (precinct), and believes in the principles of the Republican Party (GOP) is welcome to attend and participate!
